Wonderful stage setting, music, singing, and story. Especially the female leads and supporting actresses.

Brilliant overall production although not entirely my taste. If I had been more familiar with songs I may have enjoyed more. Acting and singing / music excellent for this type of show.

The setting of this musical is poignant and demonstrates the struggles of a waning shipbuilding industry up North. The lyrics and vocals are excellent and the cast all well chosen. Of course, being able to see and hear Sting makes this even more worthwhile!

This is the fourth time I watch the show. First one back in 2014 in NY, and the last three ones in Paris, Amsterdam and London. Fantastic show, very emotional and all the actors are very professional. Highly recommended.

If you get a chance to see ‘The Ship’ then it is well worth it. It reminded me of Les Miserables in that there was a story and some strong characters. Great to see Sting but the rest of the cast were just as good. Seats were in the Grand Circle row b and were excellent.

Sting is a master lyricist and he’s weaved a story with many layers and viewpoints. Interlinked with songs that feel old and new, superbly sung by a fabulous cast. It feels like a passion project and that’s what you feel as the story reaches its climax! I loved it.

Brilliant show. Great social reminder of our ship building industry.

Wonderful storyline and songs about a dying shipyard and the community that depends on it . Sting is amazing !

I admit Sting was the primary reason I booked tickets--I love his music. From the moment he turns and reveals himself onstage (well in the air actually), the Sting lovers are satisfied. His acting was heart felt and his voice appropriately gritty given his character's illness. The woman who played his wife, Jackie Morrison, commanded the stage with her acting and singing. Her talent is undeniable. The many choral pieces were glorious. Stunning visual effects! I've read complaints that there are no memorable ditties (like "Memories" from Cats or "These are a few of my favorite things" from the Sound of Music, but I view the music as more operatic--music that moves the plot forward. (I just saw and loved Alcina, but I did not leave the ROH whistling a Handel ditty either!). Some additional shout outs: Lejaun Sheppard's performance as The Wallsend Ferryman elevated the story from a singular locality to a Greek-level universality of life and death. The dying scene (I will not spoil by revealing whose dying scene) was an expected emotional highlight. The scene where the women ward off the police was an unexpected emotional highlight. Finally, bravo to Sting for his humility--he bowed with the cast when he could have garnered minutes of applause on his own.

The beginning and the end were the most amazing moments for me. The background image, the stage, dances, lights and sound production were brilliant! And I admire Sting and his talent. I knew the story and most of the songs, as I watched them on YouTube many times; however, I didn't get all the spoken parts from some of the actors last night. Bar and program prices seemed reasonable.

While the music was at some point touching and engaging, the overall idea is disappointingly full of clichés. I expected a more risk-taking approach. There was nothing new or special about it, apart from Sting, which is probably why we were all there. The seats were ridiculously expensive.

A very emotional story, well acted. But it was the fabulous voices. Peg, Gideon absolutely stole the scenes. And of course Sting/Jackie. Terrific.

Gritty ,visually impactful , amazing voices !

One of my best nights out at the Theatre! Fantastic set and lighting and music. Sting and all of the actors were strong and had great voices. The story was told strongly and convincingly and the 2 hours 50 minutes whizzed by. Some wonderful effects. Really worth seeing!

Well written and sung. Plus, of course, Sting!

Utterly amazed to see Sting on stage ... a real pleasure to be part of his story telling and I now want to know more about the end of the Newcastle shipyard era

A good story and a cautionary one. Not everyone needs to follow in their Fathers footsteps after all Sting did not. His story telling through his lyrics always takes you on a journey and this didn’t disappoint. The lead male singer had a lovely voice not dissimilar to Stings. The lead female was also vocally talented and acted well. I didn’t think her cowboy boots and satin tops were appropriate to the era or ‘dockside’ attire. The daughter delivered a belter! Sting never disappoints his voice is as good today as it was in his youth throughout the Police years and solo career and I’ve seen him a number of times.He did a great job! Overall a great story and performance really enjoyable at a beautiful venue, felt very intimate and instdentally the staff where super friendly and professional.

The plot was a worthy one, albeit dull. Some great singers in the cast. The storyline was a serious one with few moments of light relief.

Interesting storyline, great music and acting. Particularly interesting to those from the north east of England.

A so beautiful story that you can find others similar; a part of life..

A last minute excellent decision to see this wonderful show. Xxxx

A fantastic show all round. A political and social story with its roots in recent history, linked to a love story set in an industrial shipyard. Vibrant music and powerful voices to enjoy a fab time.

This show was one of the most moving and amazing that I’ve seen in theatre for some time. The set and the actors took us completely into the story and the times in which it happened. Sting was the amazing leader in the whole story. I lived through the times when British industries were closed by the government of the time. This show described how this happened, how the workers responded and pulled together and supported each other. It is recent history brought to life and would be very good for teenagers and adults to see. The whole show stirred up my feelings, of anger, sorrow and empathy. I felt so proud of the workers and how they faced this. The show was very imaginative and excellent at putting over the story. I just wish I could have spoken to Sting and tell him exactly how it made me feel.

Special for me because I lived in that town,in that street at the same time as when Sting and his family lived there,the same ships,always being built there.I worked as a Welder in that same Shipyard.A few American's sat next to me, said they struggled to pick up on the dialect.But it seemed, more than the majority, like myself, loved it.

Worth it for sure. A decent cast, story, songs and a great set. Overall we enjoyed it. A four out of five.

Everything and everyone stood out. We were here from Canada and just happened upon this show and being a huge “Sting” fan we had to go. He was amazing of course but so were all the performers including the musicians.

A wonderful stage set with very clever and quality lighting backed by first class vocals, makes this a must watch.
