Much Ado About Nothing

Do you fancy a fiercely funny rom-com? You need Much Ado About Nothing, starring Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell. Jamie Lloyd directs this new production, and Soutra Gilmour is responsible for the design. Stars of the screen, TV and stage Tom Hiddleston (Loki, The Night Manager) and Hayley Atwell (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Rosmersholm) are set to make this version of Shakespeare’s romcom a hit. You’ll know Hayley Atwell for her varied screen, TV and stage roles. 2009’s Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge saw her nominated for an Olivier. She has appeared in The Faith Machine, The Pride, Dry Powder, and Josie Rourke’s Measure for Measure and 2019’s Rosmersholm.

Tom Hiddleston’s many screen credits include Loki in Marvel’s Thor and The Avengers. On stage he’s been in Betrayal , Hamlet, Coriolanus, Othello and in Cymbeline, a role that won him the Olivier for Best Newcomer. The plot? When war-weary soldiers turn up at Leonato’s house, Claudio falls in love with Hero. Banter-lovers Benedick and Beatrice are meant for each other, so their friends decide to trick them into falling in love. Beatrice and Benedick fall in love, but keep it a secret. Don John decides to meddle. The misunderstandings carry on as everyone sticks their oar in and the confusion grows. Not to be missed.

Modern, creative, a must see!
My favourite Shakespeare play brought to live in a completely new, creative and playful way. Lots of unexpected dancing, great use of an unusual, minimalistic set. Great casting. And Tom Hiddleston - what a superb actor, what a star! Absolutely loved the show. Best live performance of Much Ado I have ever seen. A must see! Was a little disappointed that one of my favourite roles (Dogberry) had been cut away (together with a number of others), but some of the comedic relief was taken up by the unusual choice of Don John. It is understandable that Shakespeare's large cast was trimmed down and the show did not suffer for it, it tightened the play up and left time for song and dance numbers, which were unexpected, but fit the modern setting and the mood of the scenes. Some of the strobe lighting elements were a bit too much for me.

Most imaginative relevant and fun Shakespeare I have ever seen!
My teenage daughters and I laughed in delight and loved the amazing set Design and costumes that brought the story so much fun and meaning. Hayley Atwell was a revelation bringing meaning to Shakespeares lines which can be tricky for the average punter. All the cast were superb and gave an infectious sense of fun which you just wanted to join in on! The charismatic Margaret singing amazing arrangements of dance music was just irresistable. Would love to see another Shakespeare by the same director now.

Dynamic and clever!
A marvelously updated fun and dynamic presentation. The actors were phenomenal as was the staging lighting and music. I've been going to the theater for 40 years and this is one of the best things I have ever seen- strongly recommend!
